Arts Education 8
This is a fabulous course for young artists who are curious, want to experiment with new materials and learn about art making techniques. Art 8 introduces students to many two and three-dimensional ways of working and seeing the world. No previous formal art experience is required, but your thoughts and imagination are!
Arts Education 9
All young artists (even beginners) are welcome in this course. You only need a willingness to explore various materials as this course may include working in the areas of: drawing, painting, collage and mixed media. The principles and elements of Art and Design, Art History, and the development of personal imagery will be emphasized more than in Art 8 as we continue to explore topics, themes, and our individual perceptions.
Visual Arts: Art Studio 10
Students who take Art 10 will have an opportunity to explore various two and three-dimensional media even if they have not taken a visual art classes previously. Media that may be explored include: drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and collage. In preparation for senior Art classes, the study of the principles and elements of Art and Design, Art history, and using Art as a means of communicating personal messages and ideas will be explored.
Art Studio 11
This is a senior Art course that students may take with or without having previously taken an Art class. As in Art 10, two and three-dimensional media will be explored (drawing, painting, collage, etc.) as well as Art history, Art critique and the principles and elements of Art and Design. Added to this is also the opportunity for young artists to explore their own personal styles, ways of working and individual perceptions and voices are expressed visually.
Art Studio 12
This course builds upon the Art media, techniques, history and critique vocabulary studied in Art 11. During the second half of the course, students will be expected to set their own program of study. Students explore master artists and mimic styles from previous years knowledge. Therefore, this course requires self-motivated students who can work independently, have experience working with a variety of materials, and who wish to expand on their skill and knowledge in two and three-dimensional Art media. Art 11 is a prerequisite for Art 12.
Studio Arts: Drawing & Painting 11 (Grades 9, 10, 11)
This course is an opportunity for students to continue to explore techniques and selected Art history connected to two-dimensional Art media such as painting and drawing. Various styles, artists, materials and ways of working will be explored to give students a chance to discover their own individual styles. The principles and elements of Art and Design will continue to be studied in order to provide a shared vocabulary to discuss and share your Art with fellow classmates.
Studio Arts: Drawing & Painting 12 (Grade 12)
Drawing and Painting 11 is a prerequisite for this course. Techniques, way of working and expression, Art history and Art critique will be continued areas of study. This is a great course for students who wish to continue to express themselves and their ideas through two-dimensional media such as drawing and painting. This course does require a self-motivated student who can work well independently as they will be given opportunities to decide which themes and techniques they wish to explore in the second half of the course.
Visual Arts 3D: Ceramics & Sculpture (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12)
Students who take this 3D sculpture course will have the opportunity to create unique and interesting objects from plaster, clay, paper, papier mache, natural elements, plasticine, wire, kiln fire clary and more! No prerequisites are required besides an open mind, a willingness to explore and a sense of adventure. A visual journal will be used to document this creative journey.
Photography 11 (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12)
This is a fun course where you learn the basics in black and white film photography. You will get to know how to use a DSLR camera, you will learn different photographic techniques, how to developing negatives and considerations for how to edit and display your photographs. We spend time taking photographs throughout the school and community, working in the darkroom and working in the photo art room.
Photography 12 (Grades 10, 11, 12)
Photography 11 is a prerequisite for this course. This course is divided into two sections. Students will have the opportunity to further their photo-taking and developing skills with independent projects. This is the class where you learn how to use Digital SLR Cameras and their functions. This course is more independent and there is a lot of choice embedded into what projects you choose to work on throughout the year.
Yearbook (Grades 10, 11, 12)
In this course, we explore a variety of ways to document our daily experiences at Cariboo Hill while using online digital software to publish the school yearbook. Our hardworking yearbook team works with Digital SLR Cameras to take photographs of clubs, special events and daily hallway life.
Independent Art Studies: (Grades 11/12)
This program is a self-directed study of chosen art mediums. Students meet with their art teacher regularly to plan and guide this process. This is ideal for self-directed students who have an interest in post-secondary art programming where they are free to work on an art portfolio in a more focused and individualized way.
